Open Knowledge Initiative (OKI) Consortium
The Open Knowledge Initiative (O.K.I) develops and promotes specifications that describe how the components of a software environment communicate with each other and with other enterprise systems. O.K.I. specifications enable sustainable interoperability and integration by defining standards for Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). The OKI Consortium was formed by The Institute for Electronic Governance of Andra Pradesh, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the California State University system to raise the level of interoperability among the components of information systems used in education, government services and other applications.
The New Media Consortium (NMC)
The New Media Consortium, an international 501(c3) not-for-profit consortium of more than 225 world-class colleges, universities, and research centers. The mission of their NMC Virtual Worlds program is to help learning-focused organizations to explore the potential of virtual spaces in a manner that builds on community knowledge, is cost-effective, and ensures high quality. NMC Virtual Worlds provides a palette of premium custom services for education and training, and conducts an ongoing series of events, conferences, and programs.
