Glen A. Reece, Ph.D.President and Chief Executive OfficerDr. Reece co-founded CommonNeed in March of 2006 and is responsible for all financial operations, setting the overall strategic direction, as well as, strategic business planning as CNI continues to experience rapid growth. Having strong technology, business, marketing, and product management experience, Glen has spent more than two decades at technology-focused firms and has extensive experience with enterprise software, professional services, and harnessing emerging technologies. Glen's skills and experience span the spectrum of web-based software development, internet business strategy, software architecture, and complex technology visualization. He has consulted for a wide range of business clients including Aetna, Nike, DARPA, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Naval Research, Intel, Bell Atlantic, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Bell Helicopter, ElectroCom Automation, and many more. Prior to starting Common Need, Glen was a founding member and Global Practice Manager of the e-Business consulting organization at Sun Microsystems providing its customers with the expertise necessary for leveraging the internet to business advantage. Prior to that Glen was Director of Emerging Technologies at ISX Corporation (now part of Lockheed Martin), Industrial Fellow at Honeywell's Advance Technology Group, Researcher at Intel's Knowledge Applications Laboratory, and Research Scientist at the Automation and Robotics Research Institute. Glen is founder of two successful startup companies and it was while at Sun that Glen and Stuart formed a dedicated consulting practice in professional services focused on applying advanced architectures to education industry challenges. Glen earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from The University of Texas at Arlington, a Master's degree in Computer Science from Arizona State University, and a Doctorate in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh.
Stuart SimChief Technology OfficerMr. Sim is co-founder of CommonNeed and is responsible for designing, developing and managing CommonNeed's plugjam® platform technology as well as directing the company's R&D portfolio. Stuart has spent the past 16 years developing enterprise solutions around the world in the education and financial sectors. His core expertise is in the design and delivery of large-scale implementations using combinations of classic and innovative development methodologies in distributed multi-disciplinary environments. Prior to co-founding CommonNeed, Stuart served as the Chief Architect of the Education Business Solutions group at Sun Microsystems for 8 years. At Sun he drove the development and promotion of open standards in education systems to drive down the cost of systems integration with real world reference architectures. He was also the driving force in the support of open source software solutions for very large scale systems with a focus on exploring the true operational cost of running mixed environments of enterprise applications and open source projects. Stuart has been involved in both the Sakai and Moodle open source projects and has architected reference platforms to explore the non-functional characteristics. Stuart holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Manufacturing Systems and Robotics from Bristol University.
